RSHE

At St Helen’s Catholic Primary School, we are following the program Life to the Full as one of the schemes advised by Southwark Diocese Education Commission. This will ensure we are teaching Relationships Education and Health Education within the context of a Christian understanding of human sexuality rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Catholic Church. There has been a statutory requirement to teach Relationships and Health Education since September 2020 and as a school we are embracing “the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life” by giving our pupils the knowledge “that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships” (DFE Statutory Guidance).

We will deliver this teaching through the framework of our Diocesan’ recommended chosen programme which has been taken from the Model Catholic RSE Programme developed by the Catholic Education Service and recognised as a “work of good practice” by the Department of Education. We will also supplement our offer through themed weeks and assemblies promoting wellbeing, health and relationships. The entire teaching of RSHE is underpinned with a religious understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God - created chosen and loved by God. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.
