The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and Department for Education (DfE) state that the purpose of the sports premium is to:

...make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport ...

Whilst it is up to schools to decide how best to use the funding to meet its purpose, St Helen's aims to use the sports premium to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport. The aim being for the benefit of the pupils in encouraging the development of healthy, active lifestyles as outlined in the PE and sport premium conditions of grant.

St Helen's supports the DfE and ESFA guidance in the use of sports premium to:

• Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that St Helen's already offers

• Build capacity and capability within the school, to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining  in future years
